Dental Implants For Single Or Multiple Teeth In New York, NY
No one likes the thought of having missing teeth, but the fact is, it happens to many people. These missing teeth leave unsightly gaps in your smile and can cause you to be self-conscience. Missing teeth might be cute with little kids but with adults, it can be total embarrassment.
Once you experience tooth loss, you will begin to notice that the surrounding teeth might begin to move around and become loose. This is due to the jawbone starting to deteriorate because there is not a tooth root to support and stimulate the growth of the bone. If treatment is done, the other teeth can also begin to break.
Traditionally, the areas where there are missing teeth have been fixed with bridges, partials and in the case of all the teeth missing, full dentures. However, these types of treatments do not help in preserving the jawbone and often they will need to be replaced or repaired.
So What Is The Best Solution
The best and most long term solution to replacing missing teeth is the dental implant. This could be one or more single tooth implants or an implanted support bridge or denture.
Dental implants are designed to look, feel and function like your natural teeth. The titanium tooth root that is implanted in the bone is biocompatible and decay resistant. This man-made tooth root also stimulates bone growth and provides a stable solution for biting.
Dental implants are permanent and cannot be removed. You will not have to worry about adhesives or issues with the denture slipping around. It is complete denture stabilization.
With proper care at home and regular maintenance, you implants can last a lifetime which will save you time and money in the dental office. The results you get with implants are truly incredible and beautiful.
What Are The Advantages of Dental Implants Over Other Solutions
Here are some of the advantages of dental implants:
- The preserve your bone
- They don’t need to be removed
- They can save and stabilize the adjoining teeth
- They don’t require much maintenance
- You can chew and taste your food better

The Process For Getting Implants
Everything begins with a thorough and complete exam. This also includes digital x-rays and a 3-D CAT Scan of your head in order for the doctor to place the implants precisely.
The doctor will make sure that you have healthy gums and bone in order for the implant to be supported properly. If you don’t have enough bone, a bone graft may be needed in order to strengthen the bone for the implants. A local anesthetic will be administered to minimize pain and discomfort. If you prefer, we can also fully sedate you for the treatment.
The dentist will then place the titanium post into the bone of the socket where the tooth is missing. During the healing process, the bone will grow around the implant.
Sedation For Dental Implants
For those who may have a little more anxiety about the treatment and procedure, we do offer sedation services. A discussion with the doctor will help determine what type of sedation is the best for you and your situation.
The Healing Process
The bone can take about 3 to 6 months to heal. This lays a strong foundation for the replacement tooth to be placed. A temporary tooth is fashioned while the healing process is going on. Once the dentist has determined that the bone is healed and ready, a permanent crown is then placed on the implant.
Most people report that there is very little to no pain after having implants put in. In most cases, over-the-counter medications can be used to control any discomfort you may have. It is very important to keep up a good oral hygiene program at home which includes brushing, flossing and rinsing with a good anti-bacterial mouthwash.
Your implants should last you a lifetime if properly cared for.
All-On-Four or All-On-Six Dental Implants
If you have dentures or you have been thinking of getting dentures, you may want to consider an All-On-Four or All-On-Six hybrid denture. This is a full arch of teeth that is screwed on to either 4 or 6 implants placed in the bone. This is also referred to as “denture stabilization.”
Once the implants are placed, you can literally walk out of our office with new teeth that same day. The teeth you leave with are not permanent. They are called healing teeth and they are temporary until the gum and bone has healed. When your bone and gums have healed, your permanent set of teeth will be placed.
